The United Nations Collaborative Partnership on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (UN-REDD Programme) supports developing countries to establish the technical capacities necessary to prepare for and implement REDD+. A partnership of UNDP, UNEP and FAO, the UN-REDD Programme supports countries to put in place the capacities and institutions necessary to fulfill the Warsaw Framework for REDD+ and to move beyond preparation to the implementation of policies and measures to reduce deforestation and forest degradation, including the development of investment plans and innovative financial mechanisms. UN-REDD promotes the informed and meaningful participation of all stakeholders, including indigenous peoples and other forest-dependent communities, in national and international REDD+ actions.
After 10 years, the UN-REDD Programme has 65 partner countries and is delivering comprehensive National Programmes in nine countries and tailored Technical Assistance for REDD+ Implementation in eight countries. Through this partnership, UNDP provides specialized expertise on governance, institutional arrangements, policy design and financial mechanisms for REDD+, as well as technical expertise on cross-cutting themes of indigenous peoples rights and social inclusion, integrating REDD+ into NDCs and national development planning, and enabling access to REDD+ funding mechanisms.
